Ministries We Support
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission exists to promote, encourage, and enable Christians to exemplify “Christian Love in Action” through short-term mission service at home and abroad. UMVIM provides opportunities for service by developing and nurturing relationships with domestic and international leaders. We continually nurture our contacts with these leaders to respond to the needs of local communities and provide comprehensive training resources for team leaders to help them prepare their teams for the mission field.
Mt. Carmel Church is a local conference church that we support through our local mission donations. This is just one of the churches, in a long line of churches, we have supported over the years.
One Ministry - Two Locations. The Central Night Shelter is a ministry of hospitality and compassion to homeless men in downtown Atlanta. It occupies space in two churches, Central Presbyterian and the neighboring Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The shelter is open seven nights a week, beginning at 7 p.m., from November 1 to March 31 and offers its guests a hot meal, a warm safe place to spend the night, medical and foot care, and the fellowship of caring volunteers. The PTCUMM support this ministry through financial donations, making meals, and serving the shelter.
An amazing group of people who make chemo caps, newborn caps for maternity wards at hospitals, lap robes for nursing home patients, items for the Methodist Children’s Home and blankets and beanies for every newborn in our congregation.

Arthur and Mary Alice Ivey - Serving Christ in Peru. This family has been on the mission field, full time, in Peru, for 10 years. Growing the Gospel from 1 to close to 700. They have created ministries, children’s education, and jobs for God’s men and women of Peru.
The Fayette County 4-H program is dedicated to providing boys and girls (age 9-19) opportunities to learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
American Legion Boys State/Girls State - American Legion Boys State is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government. We support the scholarship efforts of two local American Legion Chapters. Besides a solid foundation in Christian education that the church provides, life lessons in service to others and leadership that Scouting provides, we help build young men and women who understand how to serve as “one nation under God”.
Janis Shafer was Director of Christian Education at PTCUMC for several years. She was an amazing servant of God. She went to live with Jesus at a relatively young age in life and in honor of her, the family established this foundation after her passing to recognize and reward outstanding graduating High School Seniors in our church family. The selection criteria include academic performance as well as service and involvement in youth programs of our church. The UMM contribute to the endowment from which the scholarship funds are given. The Scholarships honors the hard work and commitment of a truly marvelous Christian woman and the Shafer family.
The Fayette County Alternative Education program exists to serve the needs of middle and high school students who cannot remain in a traditional school setting. The Alternative Program provides an innovative educational program, combined with a staff of dedicated administrators, teachers and counselors who are committed to helping students achieve their goals.
Mission: A copy of Strength for Service is given to every man and woman serving in the military. Already more than 450,000 copies of Strength for Service have been distributed around the world, but thousands more copies are needed both stateside and overseas.
Atlanta Horses for Heroes offers therapeutic horseback riding and equine assisted psychotherapy for both the wounded warrior and their family. All activities are conducted by NARHA and EAGALA certified instructors and mental health professionals.
Wellspring Living is unique in that each program they offer takes a comprehensive approach — healing the mind, body and spirit — through education, individual and group therapy, and life skills classes. Wellspring Living strives for long-term sustainability for each women and girl's life by looking deep into the root of the issue and not offering quick fixes. The residential programs are key to the healing and successful futures of the many survivors whom they serve.
The UMM support our own church throughout the year with various labor and financial commitments.
The conference provides a music camp every summer and the UMM provide donations to the scholarship funds that allow local children to attend.
AER is a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Secretary of War and the Army Chief of Staff. AER's sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependents. The UMM supports this group through donations. donantions.
The UMM is proud to support our church’s women by providing assistance through scholarships for those who are in need to attend the wonderful women’s retreats.

The mission of the Society of St. Andrew is to introduce people to God's grace in Jesus Christ through meeting their hungers: Food for the body - God's word for the spirit - Community of love for the heart - Opportunity for those who desire action
The UMM invites families in the community to bring their children from toddlers up to fifth graders to celebrate a “Birthday Party for Jesus” every December. The party is a way to celebrate Jesus with our local church and the community to support those less fortunate. Activities include singing, face painting, crafts, refreshments and a special visit from the North Pole. The event will serve as a collection place for Toys for Tots.
Promise Place exists to prevent domestic violence through awareness programs, educational training and providing safe environments for the victims and their families, utilizing legal advocacy, emergency shelters and transitional housing.
The UMM are highly dedicated to the world of scouting. The UMM were instrumental in building the scout lodge that supports over 500 scouts including Cub Scout Pack 75, BSA Troop 75, BSA Troop 175, and GS Service Unit 617. The UMM also provide opportunities for the scouts to raise money, and donate money to the organizations. The UMM financially supports the Flint River Council; which is the local governing body of scouting.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Christ-centered, Biblically-based and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we at the Wesley Foundation are committed to raising up a new generation of Christian leaders. We are dedicated to winning the lost to Christ, training believers to be disciples and equipping disciples to become disciple-makers.
Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru in the U.S.) exists to help fulfill the Great Commission by winning, building and sending in the power of the Holy Spirit. We also help the body of Christ to do evangelism and discipleship.

This home helps families and children who don’t have access to other help. The people they serve — abused children, troubled teens and struggling families — are often overlooked and underestimated until they come to the Children’s Home.
Millions of times each year at hundreds of locations around the world, the USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families. A nonprofit, congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities. The USO is not a part of the U.S. government, but is recognized by the Department of Defense, Congress, and the President of the United States. The UMM support the USO through monetary contributions and with volunteer support on an as needed basis
